Go Wildcrafting (gather wild herbs)
The herbs we wildcraft will depend on what is in season and what we have access to at the time of the course.
On this outing you will have the opportunity to collect herbs that have grown wild and uncultivated. Otherwise know as ‘wildcrafting’ this is the traditional way herbs have been gathered for as long as we can remember. Wildcrafting is becoming increasingly difficult to do as wild nature vanishes from around us and is replaced by cultivated and private property.
You will see and experience for yourself the difference in strength and potency of wild herbs versus cultivated herbs.
This is a valuable learning experience in terms plant identification and harvesting. It also goes beyond just herb lore and provides a direct experience of deep ecology. It shows us how nature directly supports, feeds and heals us. It reminds us that Gaia, our earth mother, has always been there for us and if we continue to let her, she always will.
Make your own Herbal Remedies
You will get to make your own remedies that you can take home to use on yourself and your family.
You will make:
Mashmallow, Thyme and Echinacea Glycetract
This can be used to treat sore throats, coughs, colds and mild respiratory infections.
Glycetracts are made using glycerine instead of alcohol for the extraction/preservation of the herb. The glycerine used is vegetable sourced. Glycetracts are suitable for people who need to avoid any alcohol (eg. young children, recovering alcoholics and those with liver distress).
This can be used for cuts, scratches, fungal infections and mild abrasions
Ointments are made from oils, liquids and emulsifiers (substances that help combine oils and liquids) They are used externally to treat damage and infections on the skin.
Tea Tree Pessaries
Used to treat thrush
Pessaries are made from hardened oils such as coconut oil or cocoa butter that are made into a bullet shape that can be inserted into the vagina to treat thrush.
We will also make some things from our wildcrafted herbs that we can take home and use.
